Posted By on Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 3:39 PM

This Saturday, Jan. 30, a pretty cool looking shindig, titled "A Night of Films and Music" is set to go down, from 8 p.m.-11 p.m., at Pura Vida's Gypsy Lounge in Plaza-Midwood. The event will feature new music by Bo White and films by the Charlotte-based film maker Ross Wilbanks and the Brooklyn-based artistic director of the experimental video group, Lake Ivan Performance Group, David Finkelstein. The  event is free, but donations will be accepted.

For more details, read a description as posted on Facebook.com below.

Bo White has been a member of numerous notable bands including Calabi Yau, and is currently in the pop group Yardwork. In 2003 he founded Kinnikinnik, a limited release record label and promotions collective based out of Charlotte. He avidly supports local music- booking and promoting shows all over the region and recording newer artists with limited budgets. For more on kinnikinnik, go to http://www.myspace.com/kinnikinnik

Ross Wilbanks is a film-maker and social worker living in Charlotte NC. His latest series of films is called Baloos: various experiments, ideas, and preoccupations under evocative titles offering clues as to the content and intent. Taken as a whole, the Baloos offer a visual buffet for the viewer to pick and choose depending on their mood and tastes. Info about the series can be found at: http://www.rtwilbanks.com/baloos.html

David Finkelstein is an award-winning performer and director. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Lake Ivan Performance Group in Brooklyn NY. David's work is a unique layering of improvised theatrical performance, original music, and three-dimensional computer animation which encompasses a tremendous range of emotions, textures, and ideas. These ingredients are skillfully choreographed into a spectacle which is entertaining, illuminating, and emotionally resonant. David's video work has been featured in the PBS series "Under the Pink Carpet," the OMA Awards, the PrideVision cable network and numerous film festivals. He has won numerous awards including the Grand Festival Award from the Berkeley Video and Film Festival for "Born in Mid-Flight" and Best of Festival: Experimental from the Brooklyn Arts Council Film Festival for "Earth and Moon in Love". His work has been funded by The Fund for Creative Communities, The Field, Movement Research, Meet the Composer, The Brooklyn Arts Exchange, BACA, and other sources.
