As the headline suggests, here are a few picks of exhibition openings and art events to check out this weekend in Charlotte — as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.

Charlotte Art Collective Show at Avondale Presbyterian Church Featuring 20 local professional and emerging artists offering fine art and crafts, as well as pottery, sculptures, jewelry, paintings, collages, fiber art and more. McColl Center For Visual Art Fried: Franco Mondini Ruiz. A site specific installation that will be comprised of sculptures, paintings and food that celebrates issues of history, cultural diversity and contemporary American culture through the use of a fried theme. Charlotte Arts Catalyst's First Days Silent Auction at Reel Works Studios Charlotte Arts Catalyst will hold a silent art auction exhibiting the works of more than 40 artists from across the region.The exhibit will be open from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Proceeds will go to the organization’s effort to secure and develop a community arts space. Live Jazz will be performed by Brent Bagwell, Michael Houseman and Troy Conn and experimental films by Ross Wilbanks will be screened. Bidding will close at 9 p.m. and winners will be announced at 9:15 p.m. Sat., April 17, 6-10 p.m. Reel Works Studios, 817 Hamilton St.
