Arts Cheap Thrills (Feb. 7-9)

Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

Carolina Get Down at KadiFit: Universal Zulus hosts this b-boy (breakdancing) competition strictly for children (12 years old and under). There's the "Pee-Wee" battle and an all ages two vs. two battle with a $200 cash prize and an individual popping competition for a $100 prize. Songwriter's Night at Crown Station Pub: Three songwriters are breaking out their acoustic guitars for a night of original music. Lauren Lapointe, Arsena Schroeder and Sincerely, Iris are on the roster to perform. Though I've never heard of these gals, I'm a firm believer in giving musicians a chance by listening to what they have to offer. Free (suggested $5 donation). Jericho at Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture: The Gantt Center's Classic International Black Cinema series screens 1937's Jericho. Felix Curtis, a former curator of festivals for Black Filmworks, will host the event. Free with music admission ($7-$9). Feb. 9, 2 p.m. Harvey B.
