Concert Announcement 106.5 Weenie Roast returns on September 16

It's a story of resurrection... and weenies. After its death in 2005, 106.5 The End's Weenie Roast is alive and well once again.
Taking place at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Sept. 16, 2012, Weenie Roast '12 is a bit of a nostalgia tour. The current lineup has more than a few nods to the '90s including headliners Garbage and The Offspring, as well as three-time Weenie Roast veterans Our Lady Peace. Other big names announced include Coheed and Cambria, Switchfoot, Flogging Molly, Eve 6, Anberlin and Charlotte's Paper Tongues and Drop D.
The other main headliner has not yet been announced. Local band submissions will be taken in July. Tickets will go on sale Friday.
From 1995-2005, the Weenie Roast brought in big names like Bloodhound Gang, Jewel, Jennifer Nettles Band, Better Than Ezra, Creed, Bush, Cake, Moby, Everclear, Papa Roach, Nickelback, Good Charlotte, Dave Navarro, 3 Doors Down, Andrew WK, Staind and Shinedown. Local bands have always been incorporated into the festival including Muscadine, Doubting Thomas, Sunny Ledford, Jolene and Leisure McCorkle.
Jack Daniel, 106.5's program director, said the station ended the Weenie Roast on its 10th anniversary in 2005 because it seemed like a good time to end things. "It's a pretty big undertaking to put on a show like that," Daniel says.
Nostalgia was a big factor in bringing the show back. Daniel says '90s alternative rock is still popular today, and the station wanted to bring back some of those bands that have come out with new material. "One of the things we hope to do is have some heritage on the show," Daniel said. The station announced that a limited number of tickets will be available for $10.65.
Over the last seven years, listeners have shown a lot of interest in the Weenie Roast's return prompting the station to bring it back. Daniel says that for many listeners the Weenie Roast represents fond memories from their middle school and high school years.
But not everything at Weenie Roast will be familiar. Thanks to the social media developments in the past seven years, Daniel said the concert will be more interactive. "We're just hoping to make it bigger and better," he says.
