Well, you can’t accuse Rep. Patrick McHenry of wasting his time in Congress. And you thought McHenry was a rock-solid, far-right Republican who wants to shrink the government and ax those nasty earmarks (aka pork barrel legislation) that bloat the budget. And you’d be right to think that that’s what McHenry says he is. Which is why it’s kind of hilarious that McHenry was so proud to announce yesterday that two fire departments in his district will receive $90,000 in grants from the Homeland Security Department (aka Pork Central). McHenry’s proud association with the earmarks is no big surprise since many Republican members of Congress have been going through the same rigmarole, condemning earmarks as the work of Satan (or worse, Obama), then turning around and taking credit when the pork flows into their district.
But that’s not all that’s kept McHenry busy lately. Back in December, he introduced an enormously important piece of legislation: a resolution to honor NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. Amazingly, it only took McHenry two months to get this controversial legislation through the House of Representatives, which passed the McHenry Bill (as it’s referred to on McHenry’s website) yesterday. Identifying himself with NASCAR may be a good way for McHenry, who has been the subject of rumors in his district about his, um, manliness, to show what a ruff-tuff macho mofo he really is.

My fellow readers, I think in 2010 we should all resolve to turn the other cheek instead of bashing Frank Griffin no matter how hateful he turns towards everyone else. I noticed that in the last few hours on New Years Eve when the rest of us were spending time with family and friends, Frank was spending his time writing several posts on this blog. This tells me that while the rest of us were with loved ones he was all alone and bitter, friendless and with a family that doesn’t want him around (not even his mail order bride). Such a man should be pitied, not hated. Let’s do our best to tolerate him in the new year. Peace and God bless.

The money in earmarks is tax money. McHenry prides himself on trying to get back more of the tax money that the district pays out. He’s typical in that he causes the problem then takes credit for providing the solution.
The problem is that more money is going out than is coming in – taxes.
I would have more respect if McHenry also had a track record of working to DECREASE government spending. He does not. So McHenry is basically a socialist.
Good to see Frank still has his fake-Libertarian head stuck firmly up the ass of the Republican party.
McHenry is a career thief. He fervently speaks about the evils of stealing and how the Democrats supposedly steal more than he does, then he goes ahead and steals your money anyway.
He gives a pittance back to you and expects you to bow down in reverence….
