In case you haven’t heard, the NRA is coming to town this Friday for its Annual Meeting. And the group is bringing big conservative names like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin along for the ride. The Charlotte Observer reports:
Organizers expect up to 70,000 visitors to pump at least $20 million into the local economy. So packed are hotels that even Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps had a hard time finding a room for this weekend’s UltraSwim.
That’ a lot of people (and even more guns) … it’s sort of like CIAA for right-wingers. And, no, that’s not to say that everyone in the NRA is right-leaning but when you’ve got Palin and Beck on the bill, you’re definitely not trying to attract Michael Moore fans.
That said … where’s the after-party? Scorpios?
This article appears in May 11-17, 2010.

I think the difference beteween the CIAA and NRA is that the CIAA gave the pol’s skybox tickets in exchange for $200k a year in subsidies. The NRA hasn’t offered anything (thankfully) to the Commission but I don’t know what sort of deal was made with the City side and the CVRA.
I was making fun of repressed conservatives actually …
What are you talking about? As usual you’re totally off-base. How is this a slam against gay people? Are you saying only gay people go to Scorpios? You obviously have never been. Keep it moving Frank.
Correction:
The “Right-Wing Statists of the NRA” are coming into town. All those believe some centralized entity should determine who can own what weapon will be in attendance.
Alot of the gun laws, especially at the federal level, have been supported by the NRA. Everyone’s been afraid that Obama would take their guns, but that has not been the case. The last gun confiscation happened under Bush’s order during Katrina.
Might be time for a new group.
actually Gun Owners of America is the only real no-compromise gun group.
Let’s see if we can get them to town!
As usual, Franks just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. Even he knows exactly what Hargro was saying, and that nothing about this post is anti-gay. Even a dimwit would be able to tell that Hargros point is about Republican hypocrisy. I cant believe that even Frank would be that stupid to miss that point, so hes deliberately being misleading in his continued efforts to post a moronic comment on every news item on this blog. (Does he think theres a prize or something?)
Also, I find it amusing that Frank, who has said plenty of times on this site that homosexuals are abnormal and an abomination, would suddenly act like hes a defender of the gays. Too funny.
