Growing up in Florida, Columbus Day was celebrated every year with more than just a day off from school. As Florida’s history is rich with explorers who sailed under the Spanish flag, we studied all of them. We did not sugar coat them, but looked at the whole picture. I guess the locals would have been better off if we left them alone, living in the Stone Age and cutting out the still beating hearts of their prisoners.
