Matt Comer, the editor of the newspaper QNotes and the blog InterstateQ, got involved in a debate on Twitter over whether or not President Obama is a dictator. Seriously. You can read the back and forth here. During the argument, Twitter user “Proud American” asserts that the president’s usage of executive orders means he’s a dictator.
According to the National Archives’ Federal Register, Obama’s issued 60 executive orders so far. Of course, it’s important to note that President George W. Bush issued 291 executive orders, Bill Clinton issued 364, George Bush, Sr., issued 166 (of course he was only in office for four years) and Ronald Regan issued 381. Shall I go on?
Point is, issuing executive orders does not a dictator make.
When Matt pointed out that “W” also issued executive orders, “Proud American” responded:
You know, Proud American is right. “W” didn’t govern like this. In fact, “W” was much more like a dictator than any other president in our nation’s history what with his secret, private army, the invasion of Iraq without just cause, the propaganda surrounding the war, torturing war criminals in violation of international law, deregulating the very industries that shoved all of our faces into an economic collapse, ignoring the environment to all of our detriment … and that’s definitely, definitely the short list.
Meanwhile, our current president is left to clean up junior’s mess.
But, you know, let’s ignore reality, skip past the facts and jump right into name calling. That’ll solve our country’s problems.

Name callings really all conservatives have left… they’re dated ideology is on the way out thankfully.
@Frank Griffin at 3:42 p.m.:
No, my post and this CLog post is certainly not about bashing the GOP.
It’s funny, this certain propensity conservatives and GOPers have for revisionist history. In recent months, it seems most conservatives have forgotten about the real harm Bush caused our country and his lack of regard for the Constitution and legitimate government.
Yet, all the while, they are more than willing to pour out their wild-eyed complaints and go on crazy, frenzied campaigns against a so-called “imperial presidency” by Barack Obama, or say he is out to “subvert the constitution.”
It’s all ludicrous. If there has been any president in the history of this nation who ever really sought to leave an imperial legacy or subvert legitimate, constitutional government that would be George W Bush, NOT Obama.
History is important. Facts are important. I’m sorry you and conservatives don’t like being reminded of true, honest, accurate and factual history. I’m assuming it’s much easier to stick your head in the sand and continue to lie to yourselves.
Matt,
You rock.
Frank,
As usual, you’ve got things exactly backward.
What?
