On last night’s American Idol, the women’s pics came down to two contestants — Haeley Vaughn and Tori Kelly. My mom called and said, “You need to watch Idol and tell me what the judges were thinking with these two…”
So, I tuned in. On the one side was Vaughn and the judges saying she had good days and bad. They show a clip of her performance and it’s pretty awful. On the other side they show Kelly, who sounds like she has some talent. So, who did they pick?

Vaughn. Huh? Why? Because she wants to be the next Carrie Underwood? Yeah, makes no sense to me… Then again, remember Sanjaya?

tori kelly is 100x’s more talented than haeley vahn and she has potential to grow with more experience. i was disapointed with their decision. haelie isnt going to last that long there are far more better singers then she is, and honestly her vocals are very annoying, i muted her performance because she was bothering my hearing! tori kelly has the whole package the voice and the look and i think the judges are going to regret their decision.
I really like Haeley and I love how unique her voice is.
Tori really was one of the better vocalists…. Simon is lame
I’m still scratching my head… I don’t get their criteria. They say they’re looking for talent, but somehow that’s not the message they’re sending. Not only was Tori K terrific (and they didn’t even show that much of her – but the little we were privileged to see – just shone through) … so imagine if they had really let us see what she could do! …and what about Angela, the girl w/the epileptic daughter – she was also great. If they had kept both Tori and Angela I believe it would have come down to both of them. AI needs to replace their judges w/someone who really knows how to pick talent. I’m disappointed in them – and they’ve lost a viewer -just not worth watching how pitiful they are.

Yes its sort of unfair
When Tori was walking to the stage that last night, a clip was shown of her singing a great song. What was the name of the song?
It was “Hot N Cold” Katy Perry. You probably didn’t recognize it because it was slowed down to reggae rythmm, and the arrangement was 10,000 times better than the original. Katy Perry has a strong voice but she is not an above average vocalist, two different things. And yes this choice by them will go down in the annals of picks maybe only rivaled by the portland Trailblazers choice of Sam Bowie instead of MICHAL JORDAN!!!!
With that being said, I think slightly more nefarious tools were at work here. To begin with I believe the “fix” was in.
1) Others with Youtube channels were asked to take theirs down (see Andrew garcia, she was not.
2) if you check her myspace page you’ll see that she has about 10 tracks, 6 of which are definitely release-worthy state-side. They (Idol) does not own the publishing for these songs, and regardless of what anyone says, they have big problems with this, so if you read number one, then you see they had big problems with her advancing.
3) Simon Cowell is either the ringleader or in collusion with AI producers. But who makes the big decisions for them? We know SC is leaving after this season to start his own gig, could it be he couldn’t stand to see them have the next thing bigger than Christina A or Beyonce? I would say yes.
4) Look at that last performance and look at the four judges expressions? What do you see, Randy and Kara are not in the know of what’s to come for this girl? They are truely feeling that performance more than any of the other cringe worthy performances at that juncture. This is where contestants are scrapping the bottom of the barrel. And she pulls that song out? Now look at Ellen and Simon, Ellen looks like she’s going to be sick literally, and Simon…well Simon looks like he wants to burn her house down.
5) Then there are schools of thought that say, “well she was too good and they could take that kind of ratings hit…” but people are gonna watch their favorite regardless if they know Tori will demolish them, talent-wise…and they would still vote. The whole ‘looking for a country artist multi-partisanship’ is a red herring
Something tells me that they will regret this for some time. They’ve bought into the hype thinking they are the sole means for artist to advance to a public forum.

“Dreams”
-written by her after losing Idol. She is a talented writer and producer…to the point it’s hard to believe that she actually did the arrangement, post pro and the mastering of these songs…but Protools is an amazing thing to have.
“Tongue Tied”-better than anything Timbaland is doing.
“Wings”-Piano heavy and brilliant lyrically…leaves you asking wtf does she know about love…but damn it’s good.
“Glue”-hip-hop/pop infused strength of character song.
“Shine”-Song in the similar vein of “dreams” speaking to doubters in your life.
Overall she shows an uncanny ability to wield music like she’s done it for 20+ years…She along with a handfull of artists kept the group stage from becoming an utter joke on Idol.
