Organizers with Charlotte Zoo have given themselves an Aug. 1 deadline to raise $1.9 million to purchase 110 acres of land in southwest Charlotte and begin development of a zoological park. The group claims that once it’s up and running, it could sustain itself by charging $50 for a family of four to enter the park.
Citigroup will pay $7 billion in a settlement for packaging bad mortgages to avoid a civil suit by the Justice Department. The payments include $4 billion in penalties and $2.5 billion in mortgage modifications to homeowners. The agreement is similar to other recent agreements with JP Morgan Chase and other lenders.
A lack of funds in the federal Highway Trust Fund could lead to delays in local roadway projects including a number of improvements involving I-485. If a resolution is not met by September, the fund is expected to run out of money. The N.C. Department of Transportation received roughly 25 percent of its budget from the federal fund.
The Queen City-Coastal Connector began service last week offering six-hour bus service between Charlotte and Wilmington. Stops along the way include Monroe, Wadesboro, Rockingham, Laurinberg, Fayetteville, Lumberton and Whiteville. The cost for a one-way trip is $57.
