Ours, fronted by mastermind Jimmy Gnecco, delivers haunting melodies laced with heavy emotions, from sorrowing sadness to bitter anger. It’s no surprise then that the group’s newest album (released in April of 2008 and produced by the legendary Rick Rubin), Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy), is full of songs that will get you both thinking and rocking … hard. Songs are melodic and soothing, but rattle off layers of tormented rock. You can see Ours in action when they visit Charlotte for a performance at Visulite Theatre tonight. With Charlotte’s own indie rock act Public Radio. $12-$14. 7 p.m. Visulite Theatre, 1615 Elizabeth Ave. 704-358-9200. www.visulite.com.
