The Main Library concludes its nearly year-long celebration of Alfred Hitchcock with its third and final series devoted to The Master. Late Hitchcock, Fake Hitchcock features three films made toward the end of the brilliant director’s career, as well as four movies made by other directors but clearly influenced by Hitchcock’s output. Among the “Fake Hitchcock” titles are Sydney Pollack’s excellent thriller Three Days of the Condor and Mel Brooks’ affectionate Hitchcock parody High Anxiety. Kicking off the series, however, is one of the “Late Hitchcock” offerings: Marnie, which was underrated upon its original release in 1964 but has since gained ground to be considered a solid effort from the filmmaker. An excellent Tippi Hedren stars as the title character, a sexually frigid thief whose traumatic past controls her life until a wealthy businessman (Sean Connery) attempts to help her unlock its secrets.
