UNC Charlotte does dance with a difference next week as the Department of Dance & Theatre brings The Kinetic Canvas to the beautiful Robinson Hall through April 1. Fronted by a “Realityness” photo exhibit in the Robby lobby, all four choreographies presented in the Anne Belk Theatre look outward from dance, taking their cues from painting and sculpture. Guest artist/choreographer Sandra Neels contributes “Transitory Souls,” blending dance and sculpture, while UNCC’s E.E. Balcos takes two famous Van Gogh paintings as the jumping-off point for “Stir.” Other faculty members contributing are Gary Larsen, riffing on a sculpted Shiva in “Set in Stone,” and the venerable Sybil Huskey, whose “Acrobats” involves a Max Beckman triptych by the same name. Tickets are $12 for the public, $10 faculty/staff, and $5 students. Call 704-687-2599.
