When it comes to sports I fall into the less adventurous category of folks. I don’t mind biking and hiking when the weather is nice, but as it gets cold, I’m tucked away indoors. It should be no surprise that I don’t ski or snowboard. It’s just too darn cold and I don’t trust myself to stay balanced and on course. As I always say, “I’d rather just watch.” Therefore, the Winter Film Festival — presented by Subaru and the Charlotte Ski and Snowboard Club — at the U.S. National Whitewater Center “peaks” my interest. It features screenings of two action-packed films, including The Ski Channel’s The Story (which follows famous American skiers into the tops of Mount Everest and Alaska) and Matchstick Production’s, The Way I See It (which documents journeys made by award-winning skiers Bobby Brown and Sean Pettit). $10-$15. 6 p.m. U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway. 704-391-3900. www.usnwc.org.
