Cirque du Soleil’s latest production Totem is bringing its tented extravaganza to Charlotte. The show — which mixes theatrical and circus-like elements — contains an assortment of skilled acrobats (including ring tossers, tapeze artists, unicyclists, jugglers, skaters and more) and animals. But it’s not all about showing off those moves. Its main theme centers around the evolution of mankind from a primordial state. A range of thought-provoking myths and music is dispersed throughout the performance to enhance a magical sort of feel. $50 and up. 8 p.m. Continues though March 20. Charlotte Motor Speedway, 5555 Concord Parkway South, Concord. www.cirquedusoleil.com/totem.

We just bought “discounted” family tickets to Cirque du Solei Totem in Charlotte. They cost over $229 to the Sunday March 27th matinee show (no family tickets are offered at any dates for Saturday or Sunday shows).
The so-called discounts had a kicker: $8.50 per ticket for “convenience fee” (for each of the five tickets) as well as an additional $5.50 electronic fee. When the heck do you have to pay $50 bucks in fees to buy on the Internet???? not even airlines charge that!!
They also asked us to pre-pay $15 bucks per person for one popcorn and one softdrink. That is three times more than at a movie theater and 250% more than at an overpriced NFL game. – 75 bucks for popcorn and soda for a family!!!
This is going to be our last time ever at a Cirque event. Our reccomendation to family and friends is simple: Stay away and go and see a Bobcats NBA game instead.
