The wait is over. City officials say they will release the economic impact of the Democratic National Convention this afternoon.

Pre-DNC speculation was that it would bring about $200 million to the local economy, according to the Charlotte Observer. A private firm compiled the findings.

  1. @ Rum – The study revealed $91 million in “direct” spending, the bulk of which was for lodging (i.e. money going to the corporate coffers of Hilton, Ritz, Marriott, etc.). The remaining “indirect spending” included the $50 million in security, which can be broken down into two categories: 1. police presence, which included a lot of temp hires from out-of-state; 2. surviellance-state materiel.

  2. I know I didn’t delve into the specifics but it still doesn’t exactly support your initial ultra-cynical assumption.
