After a segment on The Daily Show on Wednesday about North Carolina’s voter ID law, in which Buncombe precinct GOP chairman Don Yelton criticized “lazy college students” and “lazy black people that wants the government to give them everything,” Yelton was asked to resign yesterday. Here’s the Daily Show clip:
The cooler temperatures are perfect for a trip to the fair. Or is it? Five people were injured at the N.C. State Fair last night.

As the linked article states, Yelton was a PRECINCT chairman, not the “Buncombe GOP chairman”. Most people who are “precinct chairmen” get that position by (a) showing up at their county convention; (b) voting for themselves because few precincts have more than one person show up to the county convention.
The linked article also states that “The TV show identified Yelton as a member of the state GOP executive committee, which he has never been.”
His sin was actually saying it out loud. Everyone not totally blinded by party loyalty knew it already.
Ah, Garth. Forever keeping us on our toes. Thanks for pointing out my oversight.
