Exhibit: Mixed Media by Carrie McGee

Every month, Lyons Fine Art Consulting (comprised of Ruth Ava Lyons and Paul Sires, former owners of Center of the Earth Gallery) features an artist in what's now called The Window on NoDa. Currently, you'll find mixed media (like the pictured "High Summer") by Carrie McGee. To produce her works, McGee is described as experimenting with both natural and chemical processes, such as rust and oxidation.

Exhibit continues through Aug. 31. The Window on NoDa, 3206 N. Davidson St. 704-996-3256. centeroftheearth.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
