For a brief time Friday night, Uptown Charlotte shook with bass and the weighty presence of three Major League Eaters for the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast Sandwich Eating Contest at Speed Street.
The professional heavy-weight eaters went home hungry, however, after failing to gorge the sandwiches faster than the sandwich-makers could turn them out. The crowd gathered at the corner of Trade and Tryon street was in awe, then amazed, then fed themselves when Jimmy John’s treated the audience with the fruits of their labor.
