A drink of rye whiskey sweetened with rock candy and perhaps some fruits and bitter herbs, Rock and Rye was once believed to be a cure-all for the common cold. So famous were the phlegm-fighting qualities of the drink in days gone by that children used to be given rock-and-rye-flavored cough drops at the first sign of hacking and whooping. Now the drink is being revived by bartenders who see it as a cure for the common cocktail.

Back in 1976 I had a cold and I didn’t have any of the common cold cures handy such as Nyquil. That night, I mixed half a mug of tea with half a mug of R&R. As I laid in bed that night, it felt as if my head was separating from my body but next morning my cold was gone and I felt great. I have a cold today so I’m going to try my old cure once again.
I do understand, my mom gave r&r to me as well, I live in nyc and no liquor store gave it where xan I find it
My great-grandfather used to drink a bit of this before going out to work on the farm in the winter, and a shot before bed each night. My grandfather did the same, and I never knew him to have a cold. I keep a bottle around and at the first sign of any cold or cough, drink about half a cup over ice, go to bed, and get up the next day feeling great! It works!

just got a bottle of this i’ve been sick for two weeks i was told to take a medicine cap full its pretty stout but i was told it will knock it out of you! Great natural form of medicine!
As a child I had asthma and bronchitis all the time and when it was really bad my mom would heat up rock and rye until it was really hot and would pour it into a shot glass and make me drink it. I would cry and it would burn going down but it would loosen up all the yucky flemm. Even now and then I buy a bottle of R&R and think about mom.
I am in my early fifties. When I was younger I would caught a cold easy and my doctor was an old fashion one. He would have my mom give me R&R when every I had a bad cough mix with honey and lemon. While it’s true, it has other ingredients in it. And before you ask the next question no I don’t drink and never have. This is the only thing that I take that has alcohol in it. May we need to get back to the home remedies again. They do work even if they sound crazy plus get essential oils also help too.
This was just recommended to me. Hard to find but find it I did. Going to try it. Took half a shot of it and boy does that take the chill out!! Not a drinker but do not like the side effects of cold medicines.
Well, I’m going to join the host of believers and say I was skeptical at first but after feeling like crud for several days my girlfriend brought home this bottle of sweet salvation!
