And the critics are also giving an award to the “Champion of the Scene” — this is a recognition to a person or organization, etc., that goes above and beyond to help out the local music scene. Last year, critics gave this to Bruce Hazel for all of his work on the Fools Brigade Benefit shows and his consistent supporting of local bands.

  1. Getting a “best of” award by this tabloid is like an actor getting an award from the enquirer.

  2. Your so called critics have it all wrong. The readers got it right. Maybe if you guys actually went to shows and knew what was going on in the scene you would understand this better. If you want to be the music editor, you better get out to all the clubs and see all the bands. Broaden your horizons.

    The readers awarded the same venues.
    They awarded the Avett Brothers, so did we.
    They awarded Jon Lindsay, but we held off since his album hasn’t been released yet (it’s coming out this month).

    So, we missed on Big Mamma D and Fat Camp – Is that your argument?

    And get out to all the clubs and shows? I”m one person. I’ve been to 65 concerts so far this year for music of all types from country to jazz to folk to metal.

    If we’re missing something, be more specific please. Or maybe you should become a contributing writer and share more of your insight.
