I was up at the Evening Muse last night for the “Find Your Muse” open mic night and feature performance by Gretel.

I had a brief conversation with organizer Eric-Scott Guthrie and noted, “You know, a lot of people probably assume you get talentless hacks you bring their guitar up and do what equates to bad karaoke over original songs. But there’s a lot of talent here – strong songwriters, good musicians. There’s also variety!”

From a 16-year-old singing original songs to a jazz quartet, from the seasoned vets like Ben Henry to others still looking for their own comfort level, open mic nights are a great way to see a variety of music for a cheap price – the Muse only charges $3.

Get out and support local, original music in all its forms!
