Phish If you actually manage to score a ticket to jam cult heroes Phish, you’ll see a reunited re-energized band throw the next generation of neo-hippies into a flailing frenzy. After a four-year hiatus, Phish has come back from the brink of disaster with more clarity, more focus and some rockin’ new jams. Their new album, Joy, has been lauded by critics as some of the best material in their canon. Seems like the boys are back for the long haul. $50. Adam Lambert The former American Idol runner-up quickly sold out tonight’s show at The Fillmore considering that his album sales have been less than stellar, I’m guessing people are more interested in the performance than the music itself. I’d expect a good bit of glitz and glam when he hits the stage … It’s also likely that opener Orianthi will outshine him musically girl can shred a guitar. No doubt those in attendance will rave about his performance and remember little about the tunes themselves. $24.75-$35.50. The Fillmore Charlotte, www.livenation.com (Hahne)

I’ve seen Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation show, and it was great! His voice is amazing live, and his stage presence is mesmerizing. Since I really prefer classic and alt rock, I was surprised to find myself really liking Adam Lambert’s album (despite the somewhat tepid sales, I’m not alone, as it actually got pretty good critical reviews overall), but his live performance of his songs was even better than the album recordings, I thought, because his band complemented his vocals rather than compete with them like I felt occurred at times on the album. Openers Allison Iraheta and Orianthi were also great. Orianthi’s guitar skills are awesome, as expected, but at the show I saw, she seemed awkward as a lead singer/performer. She was best when doing guitar solos and when she teamed up for one song playing guitar for Allison Iraheta.
You evidently have not been reading the reviews of Adam’s show. His reviews are stellar, her’s not so much. Sold out shows all across the USA due to Adam’s amazing voice and performance skills.
Let me be up front – I am not, or maybe I should say WAS not, an uber Lambert fan. I went to a GNT concert recently as sort of a “plus one”… and I will tell you that you have simply missed the mark with your comments. There is a lot of “performance value” with Lambert for sure, and I will concede to you in your points about many fans enjoying that equally as well as the music – but this dude’s musical and vocal prowess so far outweighs not only that of Orianthi (because great guitar is not everything, ‘though she is incredible), but also that of many hugely popular artists, of all genres, on the music scene today. I don’t think you were trying to be deliberately snarky, but his fans are so into “the tunes themselves” that it’s mindboggling. I AM INTO TUNES whereas the showmanship comes completely secondary to me! His voice is so stunning live – it knocked my friggin’ socks off. If you wanna throw some love towards one of the ladies opening up for Adam Lambert – throw it towards Allison Iraheta! I’m not an Idol Watcher – but that girl’s got some crazy talent, and a real rocker-in-waiting, hope she hits on the scene in a bigger way after this tour. To anyone reading this, I would say it you have any possibility of taking in an Adam Lambert GNT concert – DO IT! He will blow you away! I’m not a Glambert, but maybe I should be.
Less than stellar sales? Compared to what other sales? FYE has gone gold and has 2 amazing singles one of which is platinum. As for the Glam Nation Tour … the show is amazing and Adam’s vocals far exceed anyone else live. He is a refreshing change to the music world! He made me want to listen to music again! 🙂
I’m not a Glambert, just a guy that likes Adam’s music. The two songs from “For Your Entertainment” that are now on the top 40 radio chart are actually among my least favorite from the album. I think you have it exactly backwards. Lasers, costumes and dancers are great but I wouldn’t spend money just for that. I’ve been watching his performances on YouTube and I have tickets for September. I don’t think many people at the show, if any, will be more excited about the “glitter” than Adam’s voice.
Adam Lambert is #1 – no one out shines this talented man. His concert that I attended was breathtaking. You obviously are not a fan. BOO to YOU
Well Charlotte, I understood you don’t like Adam. I respect your opinion but I don’t agree with it. You are completely uninformed regarding Adam’s talent/music/charisma and INTERNATIONAL success–like it or not–this is the reality (have you ever heard he’s album is platinum in several counties?).
There is a limit of being uninformed and biased while writing an article (because I didn’t want to use “being incompetent”). It’s a shame so called “publicists” like you are permitted to write such garbage.
Really didn’t like your negative spin on the Adam Lambert concert. The fact that the show sold out in a matter of minutes should have been your first clue that there is more to this then your narrow mind can comprehend.
No need to get upset people, reviewers make stupid comments all the time. Don’t fall for the troll bait. No need to tear down Orianthi either, she pretty much got a bad rap from a few bad early reviews. Her reviews in general are actually pretty good.
To the ppl complaining this article is utter nonsense, man shut it. It keeps happening on every article you’re not satisfied with. You’re giving the fans a bad name. Making them look like snarky bitches. Please stop. I’m not a hardcore Adam fan but I do love him to pieces after going to his concert. No, it’s not all about his costumes and whatnot but he blew me away with his vocals. That’s what made me buy a ticket to second show! I would suggest you (writer) go see a show. You might change your mind about him. It really is worth it. 🙂
@Guitguy on Jul 2 11:01am – agree about Orianthi. I posted a comment earlier, and didn’t mean to diss her (although, saw Foxwoods concert, her stage persona and IMHO even vocals and lyrics did not slay me – but the guitar, Holy Hell, girl’s got talent) but the thing is, this “reviewer” set it up with the way she wrote her piece to have people comment/post in such a way that it might come off negative towards Orianthi! I agree a lot with Dave @ 10:23 – Lambert’s current radio releases are actually not necessarily the best on his “For Your Entertainment” CD – peeps should get it and check it out. And also like Dave said – check his performances out on YouTube – the guy freakin’ rocks, and live, oh man, out of this world. Not gonna slam Charlotte further – she’s sort of shown us her weak spots already, embarrassment and punishment enough for her for one day I think… and like Karin @ 9:55 said – FYE cd sales are doing just fine, especially in this era of widespread and commonplace music piracy! CD sales #’s are just that – PHYSICAL cd sales…they don’t include downloads, international sales, etc.
I am one of those insanely obsessed Glamberts and considered coming to see Adam in Charlotte. I had read so many bad reviews of the venue, I decided against it. Glad I did since I think this is a city that does not get Adam. Funny thing, I am also a NASCAR fan and attend races at Daytona and Charlotte regularly. I have been treated so well at Daytona and so badly at Charlotte. You guys, and I am an NC native now in Florida, have lots of attitude problems. Wish Adam had chosen another Florida date and skipped NC altogether.
Oh honey – do yourself a huge favor and go see Lambert. I would love to see your face after you realize what an amazing live singer he is. I went with my wife to see what she was so impressed with – and I was a fan before the concert was half over. I’ve never heard someone sing that well live – truly impressive.
to Bill – fair enough. Understand though this is Orianthi’s chance to hone her live skils over many dates and she’s already showing improvement. Furthermore by nature she does not appeal to Adam’s crowd. She’s more of a John Mayer/Eric Claption singer/guitarist who’s rooted in place vs someone like Adam who is theatrical and has alot more freedom to dance, move around change costumes. So I understand why some people think she’s a little bit boring but taken in context of her own growing fanbase she is very exciting to watch. Nonetheless this review is stupid anyway.
You would think that people who are going to comment on Adam Lambert’s concert would at least watch a YouTube or two. He is one of the best live performers in the world, with several songs, if released as singles would go to the top of the charts. Give yourself a great experience and go SEE him!
I went to the Adam Lambert concert at Foxwood and you are way off base. His voice is amazing and I have been following from day one on Idol. I would have been happy if it just been Allison and him with Adam playing alot longer. You need to go to the concert and see the diversity of the crowd. By the way I am seeing him again in Albany
I love Adam… and nobody, I repeat, nobody can sway me from that.
Biased much? I agree, Orianthi shreds, but dude, so does Monte Pittman – you think he’d tour with Madonna for 9 years and then play with Lambert out of charity? If you attended one of his concerts (or listened to his freaking album), you would realize how stupid your blog entry is.
I have loved Adam ever since I saw his first appearance on American Idol. I was fortunate enough to get tickets for his Royal Oak performance and I also have tickets for his outdoor gig at the Showboat Music Festival in Chesaning, Michigan. This man is an amazing talent and anyone who is fortunate enough to get a ticket to one of his concerts (most are sold out!) will have the experience of a lifetime!
Good point@kcinkcity… Lambert’s band rocks hard. In addition to Monte on guitar, he’s got Yellow Card drummer Longineu Parsons.
@Guitguy Says on July 2nd, 2010 at 12:50 pm –
Fair enough right back at you. I hear ‘ya.

Love the nods to Lambert’s band, especially Monte & LP – they are all kinds of awesome. So talented. Lambert live – don’t even have the words. Incredible.
And hey, kcinkcity – if your the one who does the amazing Lambert fan vids – I love your work!
I have seen the GNT show and may I suggest that you see it before you make conclusions about it.
Orianthi — great guitarist, but no stage presence and her vocals are weak.
Adam — was absolutely stunning live. I bought his album after I saw the concert. Not as good as the live performance but not bad.
And at the concert I attended a lot of people loved the tunes — even some people like me who were not “Adam fans” when they arrived.
Your bias is so obvious and so wrong. I realize that Susan Boyle’s album debut ahead of Adams, but debuting at #2 on Billboard for a first time artist doesn’t exactly meet the definition of “less than stellar.” I could go on and on about how wrong you are about Adam, but you clearly made up your mind without really knowing his talent. An old saying goes, “Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.” Oh, and by the way, Ori is great, too. At least you got that part right.
Orianthi doesn’t outshine him musically – she plays the guitar brilliantly…BUT, his instrument is his voice and he is an outstanding singer. He spent years in voice lessons and that voice is a formidable instrument! Ask any vocal coach – what he can do with the voice is impressive.
you should find a new line of work since you are clearly not cut out for this one. Your uneducated opinion is not news. Now there may be some who share your shallow view, I can guarantee those in attendance at any GlamNation venue are there for Adam’s whole package.
You obviously don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground! 1st – Adam’s CD and itunes sales have hit the million mark for both, yes we love looking at him but listening to Adam sing is pure heaven! His voice is amazing, reaching notes only very few singers can reach! His singing brings you to your feet dancing and then to tears with his soulful melodic voice! Adam is rock, he is pop, he is soul, he is all that and more and we will be seeing alot more of him for a long, long time!!!!
What really ‘angers’ me is that anytime a bad review about ADAM comes out … his fans are ‘ridiculed, maligned & dissed’ for defending him against the blogger. Yet when the detractors come on these sites & spew their venom it’s “their OPINION … everyone is entitled to their OPINION” and the fans are supposed to remain silent & TURN the OTHER CHEEK!!! BULL!!! ADAM’s fans have just as much ‘right’ to defend him as those who are BASHING him!! Therefore … SAVE YOUR BREATH by telling us that WE are making it look BAD for ADAM!! As long as there are BASHERS & OTHER IDIOTS … ADAM’s fans WILL HAVE HIS BACK!! Make no MISTAKE about that!!
This article is an example of biased journalism. I doubt the author of this critique of Adam Lambert has no creditials of any kind.
Aw, this is a really quality site.
