As a fundamental denial of human rights, homophobia is as revolting and sickening as homosexuality seems to be to the homophobes who hate gays and lesbians and the transgendered for no other reason than that LGBT’s are who they are. That’s what I e-mailed to Commissioner Bill James (at least the “revolting and sickening” part) earlier today after receiving a long missive from him entitled “A not very merry Christmas surprise.” In his message, James, whom I’ve referred to before as the Generalissimo of local homophobes, bemoans the fact that Democrats on the county commission are putting domestic partner benefits on the commission’s Dec. 15 agenda. Oh, the horrors! The shame! To think that our area may actually catch up to the progressive attitudes of some other North Carolina cities — much less those of most major corporations! Run for the hills!
The bright side of this issue is that Dems on the commission can pass domestic partner benefits over the objections of the James Gang all day long. James and the rest of the sexual McCarthyites in the religious right are relics from an era best left on the trashcan of history. They’ll never change their minds, and so be it. At this point they’re a small, and shrinking, minority and as such are increasingly irrelevant to anyone but members of their own echo chamber. Thus the reason for their current air of desperation and their loud, non-stop griping about any societal changes that don’t benefit straight white men. Kinda funny, isn’t it?

There’s alot of gay white men, so how will these new policies not benefit white men? I think James’ has a point but he of course wont suggest significantly decreasing all benefits.
James would be better served in rejecting all benefit plans for all public officials. Or at least calling for drastic reductions. Maybe he could campaign for cutting property tax rates instead of feening for the spotlight.
I received the same missive and I do not understnad the bashing referred to. Even if you completely dismiss the fact that it is a sin of major Biblical proportions, Mr. James is simply pointing out that it is illegal. It does not matter whether you agree with it or not, it is illegal in NC and you are asking that my tax dollars support an illegal act. Not only tax dollars to support an illegal act but you are asking that elected officials violate their oath of office….how is it that we have gotten to the point where we can just choose the laws we want to obey!
You don’t like the law….get it changed in Raleigh.

Truth, yes it is a sin but more important it is not genetic and is a choice!!! (Yes, I know you believe you have scientific data stating otherwise) Simply put homosexuality in nature does not exist it only exists when science manipulates genes in order to make a creature that way. (Man/Woman, simply put, choose to do what they do, its called free will a blessing given to us by The Most High.) Why, because homosexuality is a population destroyer. Without modern science which can allow a lesbian to be pregnant or without adoption a homosexual couple can not create life and are not fit to raise children as a father and mother must raise a child. Think not? Look at the U.S.’ high divorce rate and high rate of single family households and tell me the family isn’t disentegating and is taking this society down with it. Look at ANY first world nation with a lower divorce rate and single family household rate and there society is better than the U.S.’ HANDS DOWN.
Lastly, John Grooms is stating an untruth. He says “At this point they’re a small, and shrinking, minority and as such are increasingly irrelevant to anyone but members of their own echo chamber.” You are incorrect as this statement should be directed towards homosexuality. Lets be logical, how can heterosexuals be the minority? The population would decrease, same sex marriages would be acceptable in more states than being unacceptable, more homosexual programming would be on tv, God would not be mentioned at all on any airwave, there would be more out of the closet politicians passing pro gay and lesbian legislation. BUT thats not happening. WHY? Because heterosexuality is the majority however homosexuality has alot of momentum and key people in there “corner”. Either way whether we agree or not we should not hate each other. God is our judge and will judge us accordingly.
If a heterosexual hates and murders and a homosexual has genuine love for there fellow man how does God judge them? YOU don’t know…I DONT know, but I do know that this issue is put in front of us by the media with the perception that we should hate the other side no matter what side you are on.
Wake up! Listen to NO man about what God says and what he thinks. Go and grab a Bible and read on you own to find out. If a math teacher said 1 + 1 = 3 mathmatics would not be incorrect the teacher would. If ANYONE takes God out of context or is simply telling an untruth how do you know if they are telling the truth? God loves all and hates sin. And there are many heterosexuals that sin that God does not approve of there actions but he can forgive for he is love.
I’d bet a solid majority of Americans are still against homosexuality. They dont really care what they do, as long as they dont force their perverted views on the rest of the sane.

Of course, their rants are so far out of touch with the truth, it’s really not worth even addressing directly. Michael, you refer to “hatemongers who have twisted the word of God”…please give us what has been twisted. Just making the statement without any basis is just rhetoric….those who believe homosexuality is a sin, do so because the Bible says it is….those who believe that this action being contemplated by the BOCC is illegal is because the law says it is…..I’m just not following the twisting you refer to.
