Pat Green w/ Wade Bowen

Amos' Southend

Nov. 15, 2008

The Deal — Texas singer and songwriter Pat Green made another trip up to Charlotte — this time to serenade from the stage of Amos' SouthEnd.

The Good — In my opinion — all of Pat Green’s songs. That, and the fact one of his many sisters shares a zip code with us, hence the reason you can often find Pat Green on some stage in Charlotte or a surrounding area.

But as for the show, the opener, Wade Bowen was solid with a good following and similar sound to that of Pat Green. I’d personally probably like him better if I was more familiar with his songs; like I am with Pat Green’s lyrics for which I could recite to you like a poem.

"I got three days, to wash the road out of my soul

I got three days, to love you out of control."

And I found it hilarious that since Amos' SouthEnd doesn’t host many country bands, they had to scrounge for a mixed country c.d. to entertain the crowd before the show started. And what they found to play was an old recording from a previous Speed Street that even included announcements.

But Pat Green isn’t exactly campy country, he can go both ways... meaning, he rocks — literally. For a city that is thirsty for live music, Pat Green is like the water boy that quenches and hydrates.

The Bad — The girl at the door was rather bitchy – she greeted me with a look as though I was annoying her for existing and by coming to the show. She didn’t look too hard before telling me, “you’re not on the list” in a snide voice... right before she looked down and said, “oh, here you are,” and shoved the tickets at me.

But more importantly, I can’t help but wonder why in the hell Pat Green isn’t more main stream. With his talent he should be selling out amphitheatres with his talent as opposed to barely filling a smaller live music venue. He’s opened up for Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban for crying out loud. Is it just me, or is country music more like pop music these days? But for what it’s worth, just like indie actors are usually more talented and highly regarded, same goes for musicians.

The Verdict — God Bless Texas...songwriter Pat Green.
