Ah, Thanksgiving. Football games, turkey, visiting with family and friends, and the inevitable post-turkey naps. Post-September 11, one imagines, folks will be taking the holiday and all it means a bit more seriously than in years past. Ron Green’s inevitable column in the Observer aside, we do in fact have a lot to be thankful for.

Santa will do the honors at the annual Holiday Tree Lighting at 7pm at SouthPark mall today, in which a 63-foot tree gets the full Christmas treatment. Also featured will be music from the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, fireworks, and more. Admission is free.
