Recently, the folks up in the Triangle held a large-scale benefit for Alejandro Escovedo, who is suffering from Hepatitis C. Now, Bob Graham, who you probably know from the Spread Your Wings benefits held at the Neighborhood Theatre the last couple of years, is putting together a Charlotte show in the same vein. On Sunday, January 25, The Double Door Inn will host the gig (beginning at 4pm), and the lineup so far includes Les Dirt Clods, The Houston Brothers, The Edwards Brothers, Black Market Radio and Sea of Cortez, with more acts to be added weekly. Radio station WSGE is a media sponsor of the event, Greg McCraw of Maxx Music is helping with the promotion. Unfortunately, keyboardist Jason Atkins’ van and all of its contents were stolen from his driveway soon after the group returned home. Among the contents were the band’s new T-shirts and CDs, as well as Atkins’ complete keyboard rig. Marc Mataya of Bandtastic Studios was able to copy the band some new CDs and Pughjet Sound’s Steve Pugh lent the band his B3. Visit www.blackmarketradio.com for more information or to help…David Childers has a new CD out, Room 23, which has been getting great reviews in places as disparate as Belgium and the UK. Childers will play a CD release Party December 6 at The Neighborhood Theatre, along with Don Dixon (REM, Smithereens) and Malcolm Holcombe. Dixon manned the production for the record, which was recorded at Charlotte’s own Reflection Sound Studios…. After finding an investor, Delancey Street heads down to Gastonia’s Old House Studios this week with veteran producer Mark Williams (Lou Ford, Southern Culture on the Skids) to record their first studio disc, tentatively titled Against the Night. The band does have a previous release, Obsession, but it was a live show recorded at the Double Door Inn (also by Williams) almost two years ago. Led by singer and lyricist Melinda Hansen and guitarist/songwriter Keith Shamel, Delancey Street has evolved from five members to four since then, including bassist Bill Buck and drummer Rob Knox, both veterans of the local scene.
