The Charlotte Folk Society opens its 2005-2006 Gathering season with a concert by The Briarhoppers, the longest performing group of bluegrass and country musicians still active today. Their career began in 1935 at radio station WBT in Charlotte. Charlotte Folk Society Gatherings are family-friendly and feature an hour-long concert, followed by a refreshment break and a song circle and both a “fast jam,” geared for seasoned players, a “slow jam” for those just getting started or beginning on a new instrument. It happens Friday, Aug. 12, 7:30pm in Bryant Recital Hall, Sloan-Morgan Bldg., 1220 Elizabeth Ave., CPCC. The admission is free. For further details call 704-563-7080 or visit www.folksociety.org.
