If you thought poetry slammin’ was a tough workout for poet-gladiators competing for glory, wait till you see Daniel Beaty, winner of the 2004 National Redemption Slam as he performs at McGlohon Theatre. The Nuyorican Poets Café ace does it all solo, portraying a cast of 40 characters in Emergence-SEE! Beaty’s one-man slam poetry, multi-character song extravaganza is set in New York City. Rhythm, rhyme, and remembrance all rise as a long-sunken slave ship surfaces in the Hudson River at the feet of the Statue of Liberty. Plenty for a homeless man, a scientist, a Republican business exec, a street vendor and an 11-year old from the projects to chew on. Two shows, 2 and 8 p.m. Orchestra $25, balcony $20.
