There’s good news and bad news regarding the Main Library’s annual summer film series. The good news is that the theme is “The Bad and the Beautiful: 8 Films by Vincente Minnelli,” and the first title being screened in this series devoted to the Oscar-winning director is his 1944 classic Meet Me In St. Louis. The bad news is that because of the library system’s financial woes, only the first three films in the lineup have been confirmed; the status of the remaining five flicks is up in the air until further notice. For now, though, audiences can enjoy this period musical that finds the incomparable Judy Garland at her most disarming, whether engaging in a buoyant rendition of “The Trolley Song” or soothing little sister Margaret O’Brien with her peerless take on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Free. 2 p.m. Wachovia Playhouse, ImaginOn. 704-416-0252. www.plcmc.org.
