As we reported a few weeks ago, the Main Library’s annual Summer Film Series was in danger of being canceled, due of course to the system’s financial woes. Well, the breaking good news is that the series will continue straight through to its proposed end. The Bad and the Beautiful: 8 Films by Vincente Minnelli continues Saturday with a screening of 1952’s The Bad and the Beautiful, with Kirk Douglas heading a terrific cast (including Lana Turner, Dick Powell and the great Gloria Grahame) in this absorbing tale about a ruthless Hollywood producer. The picture went 5-for-6 at the Academy Awards (only Best Actor nominee Douglas lost out), with its major victories going to Best Supporting Actress (Grahame) and Best Screenplay. Free. 2 p.m. ImaginOn’s Wachovia Playhouse, 300 E. 7th St. 704-416-0252.
