Singer/songwriter Rob Thomas may be better known as front man for Matchbox Twenty, but that hasn’t stopped him from flying solo successfully. Thomas’ 2009 sophomore solo album, titled Cradlesong — the follow-up to his 2005 release Something To Be — features the single (you’ve probably all heard by now) “Her Diamonds,” an upbeat tune with a gospel-choir driven chorus line. And to think, his music career started with the aggressive 1996 MB20 ditty “Push.” How things change! Check out Thomas when he pays a visit to Uptown Amphitheatre in Charlotte tonight. Opening acts include One Republic and Carolina Liar. $28.50-$65.50. 7 p.m. Uptown Amphitheatre, 820 Hamilton St. 704-549-5555. www.livenation.com.
