The Avett Brothers’ alter-egos — the (very) non-acoustic “Oh What a Nightmare” — are hosting a CD release party Saturday, Jan. 17, at The Room. Jamie Hoover has a new website up, the snazzy www.jamiehoover.net, and it’s filled with loads of news concerning one of this town’s more under-appreciated musical treasures. For those of you without a computer, Jamie will be playing a slate of live shows with The Spongetones and the as-billed Crenshaw, Dixon, Hoover, and Lloyd (Robert, Don, Jamie and Bill, respectively) over the next few months. He also has two new albums coming out: Paparazzi with Bill Lloyd, released by Paisley Pop, and a solo album, Jamie Hoo-ever, to be released by Kool Kat Musik, and featuring songs from various tribute projects he’s done over the years…Candlewyck are currently working on their follow-up disc, with guest artists including John Cowan (New Grass Revival), T. Holly songwriter David Childers has some songs in the soundtrack to Charlotte filmmaker Curtis Gaston’s new documentary, The Flag Day Parade. Flag Day is one of seven short documentaries to be screened in competition at the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival, to be held at the same time as the Sundance Film Festival — January 17-24 — in Park City, Utah. The film is a look at the inner world of a man (Kings Mountain, NC, resident Jim Martin) who puts on a Confederate Flag parade.
