An advocate for incarcerated women as well as a minister with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte, Melissa Mummert has incorporated her beliefs and her inside knowledge into Perversion of Justice, a new documentary that will be screened at 7 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. tonight in The Light Factory’s Knight Gallery. Mummert’s film centers on Hamedah Hasan, an innocent woman who, because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, is presently serving a 109-year jail sentence. The documentary focuses on her story as well as documents the failings of the U.S. legal system. A panel discussion will be held after each screening. Admission to the film is $7 at the door.
