FEB.28 FRIDAY

Troubadour is a great way to describe Janis Ian. She had her first hit — “Society’s Child” — at the tender age of 15 in the 60s. Later, she had three major albums in the 1970s, including Between the Lines which featured the song “At Seventeen.” Today, Ian lives in Nashville and still writes powerful songs. Her live performances showcase her wonderful voice and thoughtful lyrics. She’ll be at the Sylvia Theater in York tonight at 8:30pm. Sam Anderson opens the show. Tickets are $24.50. Call 803-684-5590. (Wicker)

Being the older of two siblings, Judy Blume’s Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing has always been one of my favorites — and even influenced the choice of pets in the early years (see Dribble the Turtle). What better way to bring the hilarious antics of the Hatcher children to life than on stage in Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s production at Spirit Square. The show starts tonight and will run through March 2 with shows Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 2 and 4pm. Tickets range from $10-$15. For more information, call 704-333-8983 or visit online at www.ctcharlotte.org. (McKinney)
