The Latin American Coalition and Arts and Science Council have teamed up for Carnaval in Venezuela, an event celebrating a mixture of culture and customs from Venezuela. The festivities include a parade, folkloric and Barlovento drum dances, music from the group UltimaNota and others set to perform using Venezuela’s national instrument, the “el cuatro.” Samples of authentic Venezuela food will also be available and a carnaval costume contest will go down with prizes being given to those sporting the most creative and original costumes and masks. $10 for adults; $2 for children; Free for children under 3. 3 p.m. Don Pedro’s Restaurant Annex, 5317 Independence Blvd. 704-941-6732.
