There’s a reason The Color Purple, presented by none other than Oprah Winfrey, is coming back for round two (it was last here May 19-24) at Belk Theater. It’s good, damn it! This musical — based on both the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Alice Walker and the Oscar-nominated film by Steven Spielberg — is soooo inspiring, to say the least. With some superb acting and a mix of crafty jazz, blues, and gospel tunes, this is one show you just gotta’ see. Contains adult content and is appropriate for ages 10 and up. Performances continue through Aug. 30. Aug. 25-27, 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 28, 8 p.m.; Aug. 29, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Aug. 30, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.
