This is big: Staged performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera — adapted from Gaston Leroux’s novel– are back in Charlotte at Belk Theater for the first time since 2001. Having seen this long-standing, award-winning Broadway musical in the past, I’m telling ya, you need to snag yourself a ticket. The chandelier won’t fall on you, but you may come out enchanted by the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a masked man, aka “the phantom,” who faithfully lusts after her. The phantom — who has deemed himself to the gloomy lair beneath the Paris Opera House because of his physical appearance — should give it a go with the gal, don’t ya think? Forget his looks.
