If you’re an avid reader of Creative Loafing, then you may know that around this time every year we publish our Urban Explorer’s Handbook.
The Handbook was designed to serve as a guide to a select few of Charlotte’s more than 190 neighborhoods. With the Urban Explorer, our aim is to present a snapshot of the people, places and things that make some of the city’s most well-known areas so unique. In addition, we’ll hopefully tell you a few things that you didn’t know about these locales, too.
And that brings us to the 2008 version. This year, we decided to put an interactive — and competitive — spin on the Handbook. Titled “Battle of Hoods,” this current edition of the Urban Explorer not only presents pertinent neighborhood information, but it also gives you the chance to cast a vote for your favorite neighborhood.
Browse through the pages of the Handbook, and when you’re done, visit a special voting section of our blog, The CLog, and pick Charlotte’s best “hood.” We’ll tally the votes, and in a few weeks — once we determine the winner — we’ll present a representative in the chosen neighborhood with a plaque to display for the rest of the year. Be sure to check out CL every week for word on the No. 1 neighborhood. In the meantime, enjoy this year’s Urban Explorer’s Handbook, and may the best hood win!
