Times are tough for a lot of people in our community — but the 2,500+ homeless children attending Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools face hardships and challenges most will never know. A Child’s Place has been providing homeless kids with the support they need for 20 years — but the success of our mission depends on the generous contributions of people like you.

Please join us Saturday, May 30 for the 2nd annual A Swine Evening — a Celebrity Piggy Bank Auction benefitting A Child’s Place. During this fun-filled event, you can bid on more than 60 Piggy Bank packages from A-list celebrities like Donald Trump, Billy Joel, and Will Smith — and on 20 banks signed and decorated by the biggest stars we know… our kids! To reserve your place for A Swine Evening, please call 704-943-9562. Visit ASwineEvening.com to reserve online and for more details on the event, the banks and A Child’s Place.

Here’s one way your contributions go to help a child:

Why Tameka didn’t go to school.

Tameka’s mother couldn’t face sending her child to school last fall. Tameka has a learning disability and was held back twice. Other children already picked on her. Now, her family is homeless, living with a family member. Tameka’s mother had no money to buy her daughter school uniforms and supplies. That was just more for her to be teased about. So, Tameka didn’t go to school. Learning of the situation, school authorities connected Tameka’s family with A Child’s Place. Soon, Tameka went to class, dressed like the other children and with the school supplies she needed. All school year, her ACP social worker has continued to work with Tameka and was recently a surprise guest at the school assembly where Tameka won a Student Award. With help from A Child’s Place, Tameka has come a long way from the little girl who didn’t go to school.
