Introjection exhibit at Cornelius Arts Center: Local artist Adam McGalliard’s Introjection exhibit is well worth the trek up to Lake Norman. Here’s why: You’ll see a candid collection of old and new work, mostly portraits. McGalliard explores the relationship between internal and external human experiences. In doing so, he adds extra layers of fun details that give the portraits a funky twist (see the painting above). Opening reception on July 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free admission. Taylor Thomas exhibit reception at Sozo Gallery: Featured artist Taylor Thomas will speak about her abstract paintings. Refreshments will be available, too. It’s also a good time to check out this still fairly new gallery, located in Hearst Tower. Reception on July 18, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sozo Gallery, 214 N. Denisovan exhibit at CPCC’s Pease Gallery: The exhibit is comprised of prints and text from artist Heather D. Freeman’s book, Denisovan. Freeman is an associate professor of art at UNC-Charlotte. Her book uses apps and mobile devices and is centered around someone who died 40,000 years ago. Freeman tracked scientific details on the individual, which led to her questioning the evolution of family relationships. It’s a compelling exhibit with interactive twists.
