Call me weird or whatever you want, but one of the things I love is watching right-wingers freak out over nothing. The right’s ongoing public nervous breakdowns — over terrorism, illegal immigrants, “socialism,” gays and lesbians, gun control advocates, and dark people of all sorts being nervy enough to inhabit the same world as white Americans — can make for fairly regular entertainment. If you’re like me and consider these folks hilarious in a weird way, and believe laughter is the best medicine, then here’s your dose for the day.
Osama bin Laden was killed yesterday, as you know, which is something to celebrate, right? Something to make you glad that justice was finally done. It’s a great big hairy deal, and any sensible person who was outraged by 9/11 is gonna spend at least one day thinking in terms of congratulations, celebration, relief, victory, and a dozen other positive things. Right? We-e-l-l-l-l, not if you’re County Commissioner Bill James. James, whose responsibilities, we needn’t remind anyone, have absolutely zero to do with national security, sent out a mass e-mail this morning, condemning Pres. Obama for “allowing” bin Laden to be buried according to Islamic practice and tradition. Rather than see the U.S. decision to not enrage millions of Muslims by, say, putting bin Laden’s body on display, as a sensible, reasonable step to make things safer for Americans abroad, James calls it “political correctness” and “caving in to placate the jihadists.”
Admittedly, James’ first sentence is “I am glad they got the scumbag,” but the rest of the message is devoted to slamming the U.S. decision to bury bin Laden at sea within 24 hours. James suggests that, instead, the terrorist leader’s body … wait for it … should have been put on public display. And then Americans could pee and crap on it, and then the body could’ve been eaten by pigs. Yes, this is really what James’ e-mail advocates. Sounds like Bill’s id was working overtime this morning.
It’s a sad display, but also funny as hell in an odd way. Face it: If you’re so tightly bound by your own political rage that your reaction to a big day in U.S. history is to nitpick a successful mission over one detail, then you’re screwed up enough to be considered comical. If you can’t even take time to congratulate the people who made it an historic day, including the president, then, yes, that makes you a sadly comical figure. And the fact that you don’t even realize you’re comical? Now that’s comical. No, James’ missive today goes beyond the usual upchucking of political bile; it’s kind of, well, really nuts. For fellow fans of right-wing lunacy, let’s end by paraphrasing Reagan: There they go again. Meanwhile, here is the text of James’ little love note:

Osama should not have been allowed to have a burial that followed ‘Islamic practice and tradition’ so he can get his ’40 virgins’. The body should have been put on public display – disrespected – defecated on – urinated on (all on video) and then thrown into a pig pen for consumption by ‘unclean’ animals.?Then they could dump his sorry carcass into the sea……………. unwashed, unclean heading to the Hell he justly deserves. In short, if Osama wanted an Islamic burial we should have given him the opposite and in public denying him his devout last wishes.??As it is – media reports say we gave him an ‘Islamic’ burial so he can collect his 40 virgins in paradise. Now these nut jobs know that even if they die and are caught the US will still give them the proper Islamic burial they want.??This is the kind of politically correct dogma designed to placate a group of crazies whose ultimate goal is paradise in the next life. ??If a certain religious burial is what Osama wants when dead – that is exactly what we should not have given him. Of course, the reports could be wrong but that is what is being mentioned.

Evidently the funeral was from 1:10 AM to 2:10 AM on the USS Carl-Vinson. It came complete with white linen sheets, Islamic scripture readings for the after-life, and a translator.
Now who would need a translator if there were no relatives or mourners present?

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was buried at sea from the deck of a U.S. aircraft carrier in the north Arabian Sea after being washed according to Islamic custom and receiving a religious funeral, a U.S. defense official said on Monday.
“Today religious rights were conducted for the deceased on the deck of the USS Carl-Vinson which is located in the North Arabian Sea,” a senior defense official said.
“Preparations for at-sea burial began at 1:10 a.m. EST (0510 GMT) and were completed at 2 a.m. EST,” the official said.
“Traditional procedures for Islamic burial were followed.”
“The deceased’s body was washed and then placed in a white sheet. The body was placed in a weighted bag.
“A military officer read prepared religious remarks which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker. After the words were complete, the body was place on a prepared flat board, tipped up, whereupon the deceased’s body eased into the sea,” the official said.
Burying Osama bin Laden’s body at sea has ensured that his final resting place does not become a shrine and a place of pilgrimage for his followers.
Saudi Arabia is reported to have refused to take the body for burial.
In Islamic tradition a body must be buried within 24 hours of death. Burials normally involve the deceased being buried with their head pointing towards Mecca, however burial at sea may be permitted if there is a risk the body may be exhumed and mutilated.
However, some clerics have argued that bin Laden’s burial is a violation of Islamic tradition and a dishonour that will provoke muslims.
Osama bin Laden’s body was identified by US authorities by matching a DNA sample to one taken from his late sister’s brain.
I doubt we would have done the same for Hitler and I know we didn’t do it for Mussolini.

Normally, I don’t think a funeral is out of place (even for a bad guy).
In this case, the funeral (or burial rights) are part of the terrorism.
Osama and his ilk want to destroy America because we are the ‘great Satan’.
They believe that they are doing Allah’s will and believe that killing us is part of their jihad and path to ‘Paradise’ (Islamic heaven).
Giving him (or any of these terrorists) their Islamic burial is to provide them with the last link in their perverted plan.
If Americans give these guys an Islamic burial we are saying a ‘last rights’ Islamic prayer to welcome Osama into ‘Paradise’ (where he gets his virgins). The service on the USS Carl-Vinson was about an hour long with scripture readings and a white linen shroud.
This isn’t about revenge, nor is it about vengeance. It is about letting all those Islamic terrorists know that they will not receive the Islamic last rights they crave as they head into the afterlife (Hell in my opinion).
By giving them this we are not appearing to be the better person – we are seen as schmucks – giving the terrorists entry into Paradise.
After the terrorist attacks in India, the Indian government and the Islamic council rejected funerals for the Islamic terrorists for that very reason. See article below from 2008.
The terrorists as Islamic jihadists believe that the funeral is a component to getting into Paradise (different from Christianity where the funeral is just to remember and honor the dead).
Obama believes that playing this PC game (burial at sea) will help with the non-terrorist Muslims. I disagree. Especially since they killed Osama who was unarmed. I would have done the same thing but there is this dilusion that a full burial will make them like us more.
If the terrorists think they can kill us and still get the prayer into Paradise from their enemy it is just one more reason for them to kill us (and one less reason they have to worry about when fighting us).

Mumbai killers to be denied a Muslim burial

A MUSLIM graveyard today refused to bury nine of the gunmen who terrorized Mumbai.
The men were not true followers of the Islamic faith, according to the influential Muslim Jama Masjid Trust, which runs the 7.5-acre Badakabrastan graveyard in central Mumbai.
“People who committed this heinous crime cannot be called Muslim,” said Hanif Nalkhande, a trustee. “Islam does not permit this sort of barbaric crime.”
Ten gunmen laid siege to India’s financial capital. One was captured and the rest killed.
The bodies of the nine now lie in a morgue awaiting last rites, while the lone surviving militant is in police custody.
Normally, unclaimed bodies thought to be Muslims are given to the nearest Muslim graveyard for burial after three days, leaving police unsure what to do now.
Police do not believe anyone will claim the gunmen’s corpses since they are thought to be from Pakistan.
“The gunmen must be buried because we are bound to see that their last rites are performed according to the religion they follow,” said Jain Sirmukadam, a senior police inspector. “We have heard the trust’s decision. We are considering what to do now.”
There are seven other Muslim graveyards in Mumbai, but the Jama Masjid’s influence means none of the others are likely to accept the bodies.
While Nalkhande said several Islamic scholars had backed the trust’s decision, some also criticised the move.
Even militants must be given a proper burial, said scholar Maulauna Zubair Ahmed.
“As per the Shariah, the trust cannot say no,” he said, referring to Islamic law. “The Shariah says whether a Muslim is a drunkard, rapist, criminal, you must offer him a place for burial.”
Indian authorities say the captured gunman said he was trained at a camp in Pakistan run by the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. Authorities in Pakistan have denied this.
