Longtime councilman and current mayor pro tem Patrick Cannon got the group’s nod for mayor, beating out another likely contender and fellow longtime councilman James Mitchell.

The group endorsed Vi Alexander Lyles, David Howard, Michael Barnes and Beth Pickering for the at-large seats.

District candidates it endorsed include:
District 1: Patsy Kinsey
District 2: Al Austin
District 4: Wil Russell
District 5: John Autry

It did not endorse a candidate for Districts 6 or 7, both of which are typically Republican races.

  1. Conspicuously absent from both the BPC’s list and from your reporting on it:

District 3 incumbent LaWana Mayfield, a Black Democrat and the only incumbent the BPC didn’t endorse.

What’s up with the BPC’s homophobia, and CL’s refusal to call them out on it?

  2. Hi, Garth, thanks for your comment. Caucus recording secretary Dee Jones said they don’t endorse Democrats if they are unopposed. Bakari Burton, the only Democrat in the District 7 race, didn’t receive a nod either.
