Today was a good day for activists statewide. The N.C. NAACP told the Associated Press charges have been dropped against 50 people who participated in the May 20 Moral Monday protest.
“It’s exposing the Constitutional irregularities in these prosecutions against people simply exercising their First Amendment rights,” N.C. NAACP head William Barber told the AP.

At least 930 people were arrested during the relatively tranquil Moral Monday protests last year and charged mostly with second-degree trespassing, failure to disperse and violating legislative building rules, according to the story. Barber said 31 people have been acquitted and 26 have been charged with mostly misdemeanor crimes.
