The 25th marks the Charlotte Speed Demons‘ first home game where they will compete against the Appalachian Roller Girls. Don’t let the name and intimidating image of a devil on their website fool you; this Charlotte women’s roller derby team prides itself on being family-friendly. The Speed Demons forgo the theatrical outfits and stage names that other teams use in the hopes that roller derby will be taken more seriously as a sport. With a feature in the upcoming documentary Derby Baby and a hand in testing new roller derby rules that are being developed for the Olympic Games, they could just be on their way.
