The onslaught of Obama-bashing from the right keeps on growing. The latest is a return to form by The Evil One himself. That’s right, Dick Cheney has popped up from his latest undisclosed location (we’re seeing him more now than when he was in office) to pile on about Obama’s shocking, dangerous, treasonous handshake with Hugo Chavez, the earth-shaking event we wrote about yesterday.
It’s funny in a way, as the non-stop bashing/seething/panicking by the right is a good indication of how irrelevant the far-right views of the previous administration and their followers have already become. As writer Andrew Sullivan has pointed out, their strategy, if you can call it that, seems to have been taken from the losing campaigns of John McCain and Hillary Clinton: try to define Obama as a far-left radical, keep up a drumbeat of gripes, offer no substantive alternative policies, and wait.
A friend pointed out that the GOP is basically going backward in time in its labeling of Obama. First, the President was an evil liberal, then he was Muslim terrorist, followed by communist and fascist. Next, he’ll be Japanese, then an Injun, and finally, we suppose, British.

Frank, how much do the astroturfers pay you? Seems like a sweet gig … bitch and moan, espousing ideas that aren’t your own all while pretending to know what the hell you’re talking about and proclaiming the people you’re verbally attacking have no clue.

Good work, Frank. I’m sure Karl Rove is so proud.
So, according to you VP Cheney is the “evil one”, but it’s the right wing that does the bashing. In case you didn’t notice, President Obama has been bashing his predecessor every time he finds a microphone for the last 2 years.
The “non-stop bashing/seething/panicking” also is the province of Democrats and leftists, to include the Obama administration.
This administration has been trying to keep the country in full on panic mode since before the November election. His Chief of Staff, Rahm “tax cheat” Emanuel, has admitted that they will not “let a good crisis go to waste”. So they keep bashing the economy, blaming the previous President, and frightening people who are losing their jobs and homes. This situation was caused by Rahm, Barack and their friends in the US Congress. Then Tax cheat Timmy comes along and demands the government own stock in the banks. FYI: That is what Hugo Chavez did in his country. Moreover, Geithner won’t take back the bailout money because that would lose them their ability to call the shots at these companies the same way the feds do to local governments.
BTW: Many right wing pundits and talk radio have praised president Obama for his decision on the Pirate situation.
Kudos for that. Of course it may have been a typo on the teleprompter. Who can say for sure.
In this President’s case, I do not bash him so much as I bash his advisers, who have total control over the President’s policies and agenda. (Rush Limbaugh says Barack’s teleprompter is the controlling force, but we know that someone fills the teleprompter with the words they need)
To me, it looks like his advisers are mostly all academics who have no real world experience and base their ideas and plans on their own preconceived notions of how things work, how they would like them to work, and how they will go about accomplishing their goals.
The president himself has no real understanding of the American way of life, our history, the US Constitution, why capitalism is engine of liberty or what his policies will do to the economy and how to deal with our friends and enemies around the world. He’s a populist who agrees to say what he believes will make the largest number of people like him, personally. He seems to be trying to disassociate himself from the United States of America, with the “me good, USA bad” message he often repeats.
Those goals aren’t necessarily socialist, fascist or communist, even though it looks that way. These are merely those policies, speeches and programs that will enrich themselves and those who agree with them, such as other academics and those who dont want to be classified as terrorists. They pick the winners (themselves and CEO’s of some financial institutions) and who are the losers (Lehman Brothers, the American worker). They fired GM’s CEO and now they are trying to sell this “stress testing” of financial institutions. Stress tests are the Administration’s way of determining who will win and who will lose. When has that ever happened in the past?
So, you can see that I really don’t bash President Obama at all. I forgive him because he knows not what he does.
FYI: Criticizing is only bashing if you don’t like it.
Psssst, the astroturfers don’t pay Frank a cent; they don’t have to. He’s the sort of mindless drone the right LOVES: he swallows all their b.s. without thinking or questioning anything and then regurgitates it all over the place, thus helping them spread their fear and loathing toward anything different. And it doesn’t cost them an extra nickel.
Obama did the correct thing by releasing the files. Isn’t the right always moaning about the lack of transparency in all things government related? Funny how that doesn’t seem to apply if it involves their hero Bush.
Mover, while I don’t agree with what you say, you’re at least more coherent than Frank has ever been in his endless blather. However, this line jumped out: “This administration has been trying to keep the country in full on panic mode since before the November election.”
I have friends – good, responsible people – losing jobs and more all around me. Their being in a panic mode is not because of Obama and his administration keeping them that way, it’s because they’re dealing with harsh reality. If you want a real example of keeping the country in a b.s. panic mode, think back to all the bogus “terror alerts” during Bush’s reign, especially (how convenient) those that appeared in a flurry right before the election against Kerry.
Hamilton,
You are right. Let’s have more transparency. Send a request to The One and see if he will release the documents that detail what information, if any, was obtained using those horrible horrible methods.
Hamilton,
Again, you are right. Good responsible people are losing their jobs through no fault of their own.
But, the panic that is being nurtured by the administration is prolonging the recession, not helping it. The banks still won’t lend money to other businesses because the market is “too risky”, even though they have billions and trillions of dollars pigeon-holed. It’s a catch 22 situation. They won’t lend because of the “crisis” and more businesses have to slow down or stop because they cannot move any dollars. The daily cries of “crisis that I inherited” only gives the bankers more vapor lock.
I was at a lawyers office the other day getting a will drawn up and asked about the stacks of folders on the legal secretary’s desk and veranda. She said it was approved mortgages and refinancing that banks had approved, but would not pull the trigger on. In one case, it was a refinance on a home that was mostly paid for. The owner was in a great position to keep his income and had enough stashed away to cover payments for over a year. It’s still sitting there. We’re in an economic crisis.
And I’ll tell you. The fact is I have been wanting to get a new vehicle that gets better mileage than my pickup truck for driving back and forth to work (25 mi each way). But I’m not going to do it because I may be out of a job next year and my truck is paid for. That will have to wait until the crisis is over.
If history is any judge, it will be over is 4 to 6 years. The government is following the FDR economic stimulus model that made a 3 year recession into a 14 year depression. Are economic situation is much better regulated than FDR’s, so it shouldn’t last as long. If they did nothing at all it would be over by this summer. IMHO
And, I think you’ll find that with all the money that’s being printed (hope dollars, I call it), your friend’s unemployment check will not buy as much as it did a few months ago.
