If you’re of the progressive sort with a kinda dark sense of humor, here’s a little something to get your Labor Day weekend off to a good start. Anti-Muslim fever, as you know, is being stoked across the country by the likes of Gingrich and Limbaugh, but it was just a matter of time before some bigot’s hatred backfired on him. Specifically, it’s probably not a good idea to mix alcohol and right-wing talk radio.
The New Haven Register reports that last Thursday, Kevin Morris, 31 and really drunk, came barreling into a West Haven, Conn. hookah lounge, which he apparently thought was a Muslim-run business rather than a hipster refuge, and began shouting profanities and racial and religious insults at customers, including black and Arabic people. Morris may have been confused about what a hookah lounge is, but, as TalkingPointsMemo writes, “One thing is clear: it ain’t a mosque.”
Sure enough, after Morris the Drunken Bigot had insulted everyone in the place and grabbed the bartender by the throat, outraged customers gathered ’round and proceeded to beat the shit out of the guy. As the Register reports, when police got there, Morris “was bleeding profusely from the face.” He was treated at a hospital and is still in police custody, charged with intimidation due to bias and breach of peace. Peace and love, everybody (wink, wink). Peace and love, and have a great holiday.

As long as the right wing fear and hate mongers continue to spout their garbage daily to an ever increasing audience of fools, this stuff will continue to escalate.
They’ll just try to use it as another example of the sort of violence caused by fundamentalist Islam.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets killed, right? I’m Muslim, and I don’t find this funny. I find a twisted sort of justice in it, of course. Islam would teach us not to resort to violence, unless defending ourselves. So anyone who was physically intimidated by this guy was doing right by Islam to repel him. This just goes to show what losers these anti-Muslim bigots are – from the highest echelons of the Republicans to the faux “liberals” who spout anti-Muslim bigotry.

This is just one of a number of incidents where mosques are being burned and vandalized and people perceived as being muslims are being attacked. As an aside to all of you peace loving, moralistic human beings who are so quick to apply labels….Morris is a decorated US Marine who defended you and your country. He was a caring and loving person who had many close friends of all colors and creeds. He became injured while on active duty and was receiving large doses of medicine in his recovery. These medicines caused a chemical balance in his brain to manifest itself and he became a diagnosed scizophrenic. Like most mentally ill people, he does not take his meds regularly and tends to self medicate with alcohol. Were his actions horribly wrong??? Absolutley. But don’t be so quick to judge and suggest that “a bullet be put in his head”. Hopefully, he will be placed in a psychiatric facility and get the help he needs.

Not all Muslims are the same, any common person can see this, but you being in denial of people with distorted views towards Islam flying planes into the WTC is not helping anybody. Just like it was Christians who killed Tiller, yet most Christians don’t say it wasn’t a Christian, just that Jesus would never approve of that, and the person who did it had a distorted belief system. It’s irrelevant that Muslims were part of the first responders, or that Muslims died in the WTC. That doesn’t mean some other Muslims didn’t fly those planes.

Come On let’s get serious…racism and bigotry has always been a problem in the States. It’s just disguised real well. For example the Tea party…I would say at least half are a bunch of racist bigots…come one just 60 years ago blacks were marching for the right to vote and that act isn’t even permanent. It’s renewed every 25 years…that to me spells bigotry and to ensure they can repeal when the fourth reich hits. Some group of misguided individuals thinks they have the right to maim and kill at will in the name of religion. Sounds ludicrous! When will they ever stop to think and value the life and the properties of other individuals. They are the most bigoted individuals in planet earth. Does it matter how fast a religion grows? What does this religion add to the fabric of the society apart from instilling fear and rift in communities?

Alot of people think this is a wide spread problem and it isn’t. Spread in the sense that people from diffrent parts of the country have participated in it, but not in the sense of numbers. There are only a hanful of people who actually believe with 100% conviction that this is all the Muslims fault, and they have to get drunk before they outwardly express their opinions. (Anyone else notice that corralation?)
I found this increduably funny because I’ve been waiting for it to happen. I’m atheist for the most part, but that doesn’t mean I support the verbal trashing of people’s beleives (who knows, they could be right) which is why I think this guy got what he deserved.
