West Charlotte High School football coach D’amon Maurice “Mo” Collins died early Sunday “after an unexpected illness,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced in a brief statement.
Collins, 38, a West Charlotte graduate who played football at the University of Florida and later six seasons with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, was named West Charlotte’s head coach last summer. He had been receiving dialysis treatments for kidney failure. He is the second area football coach to die in recent weeks.
