West Charlotte High School football coach D’amon Maurice โ€œMoโ€ Collins died early Sunday โ€œafter an unexpected illness,โ€ Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced in a brief statement.
Collins, 38, a West Charlotte graduate who played football at the University of Florida and later six seasons with the NFLโ€™s Oakland Raiders, was named West Charlotteโ€™s head coach last summer. He had been receiving dialysis treatments for kidney failure. He is the second area football coach to die in recent weeks.
