West Charlotte High School football coach D’amon Maurice โMoโ Collins died early Sunday โafter an unexpected illness,โ Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced in a brief statement.
Collins, 38, a West Charlotte graduate who played football at the University of Florida and later six seasons with the NFLโs Oakland Raiders, was named West Charlotteโs head coach last summer. He had been receiving dialysis treatments for kidney failure. He is the second area football coach to die in recent weeks.

The next few weeks could play a key role in determining future charter school policies in North Carolina.
