The N.C. Department of Transportation reaffirmed its commitment to toll lanes Thursday, with a 10-year plan including them in the widening of three key Charlotte projects: Interstate 485 from Rea Road to U.S. 74, Interstate 77 from uptown to the South Carolina line and U.S. 74 from uptown to Matthews.
As communities around the nation protest decisions not to charge officers who have injured or killed suspects, South Carolina prosecutors have obtained indictments against three white officers for on-duty shootings of unarmed black men in the past four months.
North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction “highly recommend” that school districts use social studies and history materials prepared by the Bill of Rights Institute, an institute funded by the conservative Koch family. The Bill of Rights Institute, based in Virginia, had a $100,000, sole-source contract with the state to help develop materials for teachers to use in a course on founding principles that the state requires students to take.
For the first time in more than 40 years, NASA has launched a spaceship designed to carry astronauts far beyond Earth. At dawn Friday, spaceship Orion saw liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Station. See the video.

Toll lanes, Koch brothers writing a new history for our children, privately owned charter schools, ALEC writing our legislation, NASA paying private companies to service the space station, etc.
Our government is selling the country to the highest bidder. I wonder why no one cares?
DLP, everything isn’t about the Koch brothers. I know your butt is still sore after last month but you need to understand the real reasons why you lost.

Let me correct you yet again. I am not a Democrat. Your “my team against your team” mentality is the majority of the problem in politics. You vote for your team no matter what they do to you. It’s almost tribal. You believe everything your team says, even if it has already been proven wrong, and you assume everything the other team says is a lie, or at least suspect. I am particularly fond of the way Fox News has convince half of America that every other news outlet is a liberal rag which is controlled by the Democrats. I mention the Democrats only because of your accusation that I lost the election. There are, in fact, many people just like you on both teams. That is why our government is gridlocked. Us against them has replaced what is best for my district. If you think the guy you voted for will represent YOU you are living in a dream world. He will vote the way his party tells him to, just like you did in the election. The party will vote the way their big dollar contributors tell them to. If I say gerrymandering is wrong, your knee jerk reply will be “you didn’t feel that way when the Democrats (though you will probably childishly slur the name) were in charge. In fact, I have been offended by that process since I learned about it in 6th grade. So you see, I did not lose and my butt is not sore.
I long for the day when I can vote for the best candidate. Instead I have to vote for the one that I find the least scary.

DLP: I do not like toll bridges or toll lanes. They NEVER go away and the prices never drop. They always go up. We pay taxes out the wazoo for our highways and as everything with Government, it is never enough.
But hey, it’s Mecklenburg county. They never met a tax they didn’t like.
