On the heels of the General Assembly putting a constitutional anti-same sex marriage amendment on the 2012 primary ballot, two of the city’s foremost advocates for and against lesbian-gay-bi-transgender (LGBT) rights will have it out today on WBT radio.

Matt Comer, the editor of Qnotes, a Charlotte LGBT newspaper, will square off against Charlotte anti-gay activist Dr. Michael Brown on the topic, “What’s Wrong With Homosexuality?” at 4:30 p.m. today as part of Vince Coakley’s show on WBT 1110AM. Comer has been an avid critic of Brown, who leads a local anti-gay group called Coalition of Conscience. Brown is affiliated with Lou Engle of the group The Call, which has made news by supporting efforts in Uganda to sentence gays to lengthy prison terms or, in many cases, capital punishment.

This should make for an entertaining debate on one of the hottest and most important human rights issues of our time.

  1. Because, maddmoose, while we welcome good, snarky, intelligent — and sometimes not-so-intelligent — commentary, whether or not we agree with it, we do not welcome abusive language that goes well beyond the bounds of anything approaching decency. But thanks for reading.

  2. Well ,hate is certainly the word that the triune God uses of His stance on sin. As you may be informed that the wages of sin is death. Might want to avoid that my friend. I do, and if I do happen to sin, I can recover by asking forgiveness and He is faithful and just to forgive me my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. You can put us in there if you like.

  3. Truth is, the gay men who showed at the “vigil” the other night in Plaza-Midwood, are the same men who host gay orgies in that area and whose neighbors are tired of that. How can we “demand” equality and respect when we are not willing to offer the same to the community?

  4. WOW… I must say all of the Bible thumpers think they are so above anyone else. So, according to Daniel7 if all he has to do to be “Christian” is to ask forgiveness if he sins, then all of us “gays” just need to ask forgiveness after we fu@k and we can be holy too. Ok GAYS lets start spreading the news!!!!!! Now we can be upstanding citizens of the USA by just saying, forgive me for I have sinned I know not what I do. Just a urge DEEP inside me that I can’t fight. I am so sorry I loved another. I feel christian already!!!!

  5. Why is anybody debating a guy who adamantly believes in not only marginalizing gays, but ADVOCATES VIOLENCE against them? Surely even the most bigoted homophobes that we hear from around here would draw the line there.

  6. Stu, I was a student of Dr. Brown’s for a few years and heard him speak many times. What made you think he advocated violence against gays or anyone else? He actually teaches the opposite, saying that we should follow the non-violent principles of Jesus. Gay leaders have lied about him, accusing him of advocating violence, but that’s nothing more than a lie.
